Please note this is an alpha build so expect a couple of bugs/typos. Also I haven't finished off some of the animations and I'm currently rebuilding the menus.  Feel free to let me know of any of these glitches and I will fix them and update the build.

Also I'm currently working on game pad support for the demo, it is sort of playable with a Xbox one controller I just need to tweak the sensitivity of the cursor movement.

The Story

Follow Draco Trampus the reckless, shoot first ask questions later bounty hunter and Clyde Lumpkins his book shy, super sensible sidekick. As they take on one last bounty in a bid to raise enough funds to make it over to France to fulfil their dream of owning their own farm and becoming successful sweat farmers.

Unsurprisingly Draco's unlucky streak kicks in ruining everything for the pair which takes the player on a surreal journey full of strange and wonderful characters through plenty of interesting locations. In a cruel turn of fate the bounty hunters become the hunted, as the duo race to clear their names and escape the clutches of The Valley.

Draco's Misfortune takes its inspiration from old classics such as the Monkey Island, Discworld, Day of the Tentacle as well as many other retro classics. It is predominately a point and click adventure game but with a bit of a twist, the use of keyboard for movement and exploration and the use of the cursor/mouse to examine and interact with objects in the scene.

The gameplay contains multiple different factors for a point and click adventure game such as a sandbox approach to quests with multiple outcomes that can have lasting effects throughout the whole game, RPG style stats system that effects nearly all aspects of gameplay and a karma and fame system that provokes unique responses and quests from certain NPC's and factions.

The standard exploration and puzzle solving gameplay is broken apart with mini-games such as a driving game to a FPS style shooting game. All these help to keep the gameplay feeling fresh and dynamic leaving the player wondering what they will be doing next, this helps to add a level of immersion to the playing experience not normally seen in this genre of game.

Play a surreal tale portraying "Evil" from both sides of the fence, allowing the player to experience the journey from the hero's perspective as well as the villain's while touching on some trippy shiz like identity, perspective and the nature of reality.

About The Game

Follow Draco and Clyde the unluckiest bounty hunters in the land as they take on one last bounty. Draco's Misfortune is a hybrid of direct control and classic point and click games taking inspiration from retro classics such as Monkey Island and Day of the Tentacle.

Draco's Misfortune takes it's inspiration from old classics such as the Monkey Island and Discworld as well as many other retro classics. It is predominately a point and click adventure game but with a bit of a twist, the use of keyboard/gamepad for movement and exploration and the use of the cursor/mouse to examine and interact with objects in the scene. The gameplay contains multiple different factors for a point and click adventure game such as a sandbox approach to quests with multiple outcomes that can have lasting effects through out the whole game, RPG style stats system that effects nearly all aspects of gameplay and a karma and fame system that provoke unique responses and quests from certain NPC's and factions.  The standard exploration and puzzle solving gameplay is broke apart with mini-games such as a driving game to a FPS style shooting game in a petrol station robbery. All these help to keep the gameplay feeling fresh and dynamic leaving the player wondering what will they be doing next, this helps to add a level of immersion to the playing experience not normally seen in this genre of game.

I wanted to make a game that felt more of an experience than anything and I wanted to make it feel unpredictable and dynamic with multiple choices and paths for the player to take. So I made the game with the ability to switch between multiple engines and genres of play style to allow myself a good array of retro classics to spoof and for the players to play. The plot itself is surreal and explores topics such as perception, identity and reality. For instance you can choose between playing as Draco or Lupiano before starting the game, each one is nearly identical to each other in body but both have lead drastically different lives to each other.

Draco comes from a life of poverty having spent most of his youth on the streets, he works paycheck to paycheck for Bounty Hunters INC. While Lupiano was raised by a well to do family and is a renown and respected fed (police) detective living on a comfortable salary in The Valley. It is Draco's misfortune or lack of luck that ultimately flips the perspective of him in to the 'villain' through out the course of the game and It questions if anyone is really born evil or if it is something that is created from environment, personal experiences or just perception.

The main gameplay engine is a hybrid of the old point and click games like Monkey Island (But with a little twist).

Driving

It can easily switch between an Outrun inspired driving engine when driving to a location.

Shooting

Or to a doom style FPS engine when in a shooting situation.

Choice

Choose between Draco or Lupiano each with a separate perspective of the story and unique identities. Draco is the character used in the these screenshots and is the wreck less bounty hunter who ultimately ends up becoming the villain in the story, or choose Lupiano the hard faced, straight laced Valley detective who's job it is to bring Draco and Clyde in. Each character has their own version of the story to play through with multiple paths giving the player tons of reply value.

RPG elements

Draco's Misfortune also has a stats and basic equipment system to add a little more depth to the gameplay, for example increasing your cunning stat will then in turn open up new dialogue options and other interactions in the scene and possibly give you the upper hand in certain situations. Or if you're more of a shoot first ask questions later kinda guy then top up your shooting stat to increase the amount of bullet time you get in shooting situations.  I’m also playing with the idea of a JRPG fighting system for turn based battles like Final Fantasy series but this still requires some work and won’t be featured in the released demo.

Features:

  • Choose between two characters to play the story through with each with their own plot and paths to choose, giving the game tons of reply value.
  • Multiple ways to complete the game with different endings and outcomes.
